Chicken Adobo For The Soul

I’ve been an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) since 2005 and, by now, have had a lot of experiences living outside of my home country – from Singapore to the United States and now here in Canada. According to the Philippine Overseas and Employment Administration (POEA), there is an estimated 11 million Filipinos working overseas as of December 2009. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) estimates about US$14 billion in contributions from OFWs in terms of remittances just between January and September of 2011 alone which helped push the Philippine economy these past few years despite the global economic crisis.

Beyond the statistics and the economic contributions by OFWs, there are hundreds of stories to tell – the life away from their loved ones, the hope to persevere, overcoming adversities, etc.  that make us uniquely Filipino.

This page is dedicated to this project I’m working on – telling the stories of those who represent what we now call the “bagong bayani” (modern heroes). Be inspired, be motivated but, best of all, be proud of being a FILIPINO. If you want to be a part of the project, feel free to fill out the form below or simply leave a comment.

Special note to Dr. Mark Tabladillo, a business intelligence expert and a Microsoft SQL Server MVP, for coming up with the title for this page.
